Diamond Carat

Carat refers to the weight of diamonds. A common misconception is that the carat weight is the unit of size. Infact it is a unit of weight. There are 100 points or cents in a carat. A carat is 1/5 of a gram. The price of a diamond is determined depending on the carat weight. As the weight increases so does the price. This means that a one carat diamond can cost more than several smaller diamonds totaling to the same weight. Larger diamonds are found less frequently in nature and therefore are more valuable.

When choosing the right carat size for yourself, consider your budget and pick a stone which best suits the appearance. For example, a 1 carat diamond will look perfect on a smaller size finger than a larger size finger. Whereas a 2 carat stone might appear overpowering on a smaller size finger but perfect on a larger size finger.

The type of setting of the diamond on a piece of jewellery will also enhance its appearance. Ask us to find you the right diamond and setting to optimize the beauty of your stone.
